We have the latest budget-friendly device from Xiaomi, the Redmi 5 and with this phone, Xiaomi has finally caught up with the competitions in terms of design and I’m talking about the budget phones.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5’s back it’s made out of metal. However, we have plastic at the top and the bottom. The phone’s frame made out of plastic as well. So, on the back, we have a 12-megapixel camera, also have the flash and the fingerprint scanner. Now, the fingerprint scanner is very fast and probably one of the fastest that I’ve seen for any budget device. The back camera also sticks out a bit and that means, that whenever you’re gonna place the phone on a flat surface, the phone is not gonna sit down flat. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 has a 5.7-inch 18 by 9 aspect ratio screen that has a 720p resolution. it’s small enough so you can actually hold it in one hand like most Xiaomi devices the screen still looks good. You have the navigation keys on the screen so you don’t have physical buttons as we’ve seen for a lot of budget-friendly phones from Xiaomi in the past.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 performs much better than expecting. So, we have the Snapdragon 450. The CPU is powerful enough so you can run two apps at the same time so you can use the Split Screen function for Android 7 Nougat and the multitasking is also exceptionally good. Mostly considering that we only have 2 gigabytes of RAM available and 16GB of Internal Memory for this device and most Xiaomi devices don’t do that great for multitasking but the Xiaomi Redmi 5 did very well for that.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 has 12-megapixel on the back of the phone. So first of all, the maximum recording resolution for videos from the rear camera is 1080p. So, we don’t get 4K recordings and we also don’t have the Optical image stabilization or electronic image stabilization. Now, the sound quality from the video recordings has improved over past budget phones from Xiaomi. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 is using MIUI 9.1 And and that based on Android 7.1.2.you can only connect to the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi bands. The GPS unit will it only takes the phone one or two seconds to find your location, As for sensors you have all the sensors that you would find in a much more expensive device including a gyroscope. So, if you’re planning to use this phone for VR headsets it will definitely work. The Redmi 5 ships with a 3300 mAh battery but keep in mind that you have a power efficient processor and you also have a 720p resolution. So, you’re gonna be able to go for about 2 days on one charge and out of that about 12 hours of screen time.
